The Office of Nightlife 2023-2024 report mentioned but did not analyze the impact of regulation by the SLA of live music and dancing and the impact of community board stipulations.
In August, 2024 the Office of Nightlife issued its 2023-2024 report. The report referred to SLA regulation but did not address the many issues relating to regulation by the State Liquor Authority in collaboration with Community Boards. One very interesting fact: hundreds if not thousands of venues prior to the June 2024 zoning law amendment were allowed by zoning to offer live music and/or patron dancing, but were prohibited from doing so in their Method of Operation.
Community boards and the State Liquor Authority can still place considerations that address sound, traffic, and other concerns as part of their stipulations on liquor licenses. The NYC Noise Code continues to give DEP authority to review complaints about elevated sound and issue violations.”
